Yesterday was the first official event at the Android Aalto Community. Overall, it was quite successful and we got about 20 people interested in Android, and we are expecting more in the coming events. Here is a quick memo of what happened in yesterday’s session:

  • welcome everybody and accommodation
  • community kick-off presentation by Claudio M. Camacho
  • participants’ introductions, who is who and what are the interests
  • 30-45 minutes installation of Eclipse ADT and Android SDK
  • Google Maps API presentation by Maksim Golivkin. Checkout the slides.
  • one-beer challenge to develop further a small Hackahron App using Google Maps API (congrats to the winner: Jush)
  • free workshop and brainstorming

Most people stayed until 19:30, yet several of us stayed until 22:30. That wasn’t planned, but we got carried out and some of us continued reading Android documentation, other began some brainstorming sessions, etcetera. The structure of the first hackathon was slightly random, since it was the first time we met and we didn’t know who is coming and with which background.

We are happy to see that the environment was very international and everybody had different backgrounds. It seems that we will be able to learn quite much together. All the participants had a great willingness in creating new projects, forming teams, etcetera, that we cannot wait for the next hackathon to come.

The next event will be the keynote on 24th of November, held also at the Aalto Venture Garage, at 18:00. Futurice and Zokem will bring representatives and give two presentations on mobile development. We hope you all enjoyed the hackathon and hope to see you after 10 days at the keynote event.

A big THANK to all the participants for being there! We also want to thank Aalto SoberIT and Aalto Venture Garage (and Ville Simola for his presentation) for supporting the event.
